Putting Innu identity on paper with Maya Cousineau Mollen
“I feel that many women authors are positioning themselves well in literature: their writing is being recognized. This year, my cousin won the Governor General’s Award for poetry. The year before, it was mine. Other creators are drawing inspiration from them to create plays. There’s an interest and curiosity on the part of the public that feeds our desire to write and to continue.”
A fine interview with Maya Cousineau Mollen, an Innu writer from Ekuanitshit (Mingan), in the independent newspaper La Rotonde, on the occasion of National Aboriginal History Month. From her childhood in a family that adopted her to her struggles as a native author, she looks back on her journey to the present day.
