Marie-Andrée Gill
Marie-Andrée Gill is Pekuakamishkueu and was born on March 20, 1986 in the Ilnu community of Mashteuiatsh. Quickly drawn to poetry, she unfurls a plural identity in her writing at the intersection of several cultural imaginary worlds – Ilnu, Québécois, Saguenay, maternal, etc. A graduate of the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, she has published in a number of magazines and anthologies, as well as three collections of poetry published by la Peuplade, each awarded a literary prize by the Salon du livre du Saguenay-Lac Saint-Jean: Béante (2012, finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award); Frayer (2015, finalist for the Prix Émile Nelligan) and Chauffer le dehors (2019, finalist for the Prix Émile Nelligan). For her body of work, she received the CALQ Award – Artist of the Year in Saguenay-Lac Saint-Jean in 2020. Interested in the concept of decolonial love, this contemporary poet also hosts several podcasts on history and languages.
