Joséphine Bacon is an Innu poet, writer, director and lyricist from the community of Pessamit. Born in 1947, this central figure in Innu-aimun poetry and transmission learned from her nation’s elders and disseminated their stories, notably as a translator-interpreter. She has received numerous awards and distinctions, including an honorary doctorate from Université Laval and the Prix International Ostana, which recognizes literary works by authors who publish in their mother tongue in a context where it must be protected from a majority language. She is a member of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres du Québec.
