Wendat author Jean Sioui was born in Wendake in 1948. Poet, novelist and mentor, he left Wendake to live on a farm. At the age of fifty, he returned to his community.

Since 2006, he has held a position with the Canada Council for the Arts as a mentor to emerging Aboriginal writers. In 2010, with his son Daniel Sioui, he founded Éditions Hannenorak, a publishing house that promotes First Peoples literature in Quebec.

A key figure in First Peoples literature, his works reveal his love of nature and his people.
