Charles W. Mills

Charles W. Mills is a Jamaican-American philosopher born in London in 1951. University professor emeritus, he is recognized for his major contributions to social and political philosophy, in particular to critical political theory centered on class, gender and race. Mills has published over a hundred articles and several books, including From Class to Race (Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2003) and Black Rights / White Wrongs (Oxford University Press, 2017). His first book The Racial Contract (Cornell University Press, 1997) was translated into French for the first time by Aly Ndiaye, aka Webster, in 2023. It won the Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award on publication and the Benjamin E. Lippincott Prize in 2021. Charles W. Mills died in September 2021 in the United States. His writings continue to inspire new generations in the fight for equality and justice.
